Over the years, we have shown you a lot of rookie hazing haircuts here on LBS. Most of them have been phenomenal and teams have done a great job of keeping things original and coming up with new ways to embarrass the newcomers every year. However, we tend to forget that the context we generally see the haircuts in is the least humiliating. Nobody cares what their hair looks like in the locker room or under a football helmet. When the rookies have to go out in public, that’s when the fun begins.
As Ian Rapoport pointed out on Twitter Friday morning, the Patriots uploaded some Facebook pictures of their rookies showing off their new hairstyles at the team’s Kickoff Gala on Monday evening. The Pats are no strangers to hazing rookies with bad haircuts (see 2010 pics here), but this is the first time we have seen them unveiled in a formal setting. Some of the designs included the Friar Tuck look like the one Tim Tebow once had and a game of Tic-Tac-Toe on the back of one rookie’s head — which we thought was incredibly original and refreshing.
For the sake of the Kraft family, we’re glad the Patriots didn’t take the hazing as far as the Raiders did with their rookies earlier in training camp. Here are some more pictures that showcase the humiliation.
