Young and McNair were similar in their running style but McNair's passing stats don't compare to some of Young's on an individual season basis. There's too much positive emotion about how he played. As for what he did in his career, the way he played and his stats were similar to Steve Young's who is in the hall. I think the emotional factor will make up the difference of lesser stats to get in. I was a huge McNair fan in college. I thought he deserved the Heisman and should have been the #1 pick. He set records that guys like Colt Brennan or Timmy Chang never touched. Like Derrick Thomas, he’ll eventually get in. There’s too much positive emotion about how he played.
