Receiver Tori Gurley Opts for Packers Practice Squad Over Vikings Active Roster

When you have a chance to be a part of something historic, sometimes you have to cling onto it at all costs.  Rookie wide receiver Tori Gurley knows all about that.  Gurley is currently a member of the practice squad for the 13-0 Packers.  Normally you would think any practice squad player would pounce all over the opportunity to join an NFL team’s active roster, but that is not the case with Gurley.  According to PackersNews.com, Gurley turned down an offer to sign with the Vikings earlier this week.

“If you look statistically, their season is going to be over in three weeks,” Gurley explained when asked about turning down Minnesota’s offer. “We’re already locked to have a playoff spot. I’m learning from some of the best receivers in the game right now. The way our offense is clicking, the grass isn’t going to be greener on the other side. So just learning and taking it one day at a time, my opportunity is going to come.”

Only a rookie and having received phone calls from multiple teams, Gurley probably feels as though there will be other opportunities to graduate from the practice squad.  While there is no telling whether or not he’ll regret his decision, I can think of worse ways to spend your time than studying under guys like Aaron Rodgers and Donald Driver.  If nothing else, you have to admit the undrafted rookie from South Carolina knows something about commitment.
