Torrey Smith has interesting reaction to Chip Kelly joining 49ers
Chip Kelly is known for being an incredibly strict coach, which is one of the reasons he had a tendency to butt heads with players during his three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Perhaps Kelly will change some of that in his second NFL head coaching stint, but Torrey Smith doesn’t anticipate his new coach easing up on the conditioning drills.
After the 49ers announced that they have hired Kelly, Smith sent a couple of tweets that could be interpreted as mild complaining.
Guess I might have to start running right now to get in shape

Smith trained with Colin Kaepernick in Miami last offseason and is planning to do the same this year, which could help explain the second tweet.
As you can see, Kelly’s reputation precedes him. The Niners are hoping players can respect his military-style training camp, because stories like this one from Chip’s time in Philly prove that was not the case with his previous job.
