Yasiel Puig hits two home runs in second career game (Video)

Yasiel-Puig-curtain-callLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig has literally become an overnight sensation, and the fans are loving every second of it. Puig appeared in his first MLB game on Monday and made a major impression when he doubled a runner off at first to end a game that the Dodgers won 2-1.

On Tuesday night, Puig showed Dodgers fans that he is capable of getting it done at the plate as well. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs in a win over the San Diego Padres, including a three-run shot that tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning. Even legendary Dodgers announcer Vin Scully has been blown away, as evidenced by his commentary after Puig’s second homer.

“Hey, viva Cuba!” Scully exclaimed. “Viva Puig!”

Puig was a high-profile signing for LA out of Cuba last year. He had an extremely successful spring training but began the season in the minors. Kemp is currently on the 15-day disabled list with a minor hamstring strain, but if Puig keeps playing like this he won’t be sent down when Kemp returns. The Dodgers have been in desperate need of a spark, and a Cuban superstar in the making looks prepared to give them one.
