Sergio Romo wears ‘I just look illegal’ shirt during Giants victory parade (Picture)

Sergio Romo decided to use the San Francisco Giants World Series championship parade on Wednesday as an opportunity to make a political statement. As you can see from the photo above that Big League Stew shared with us, the Giants reliever proudly rocked a t-shirt that read “I just look illegal” across the front.

Romo’s parents were originally from Mexico, but he was born and raised in Brawley, Calif. The shirt was obviously intended to send a message about stereotyping, since there are people in the world who would assume Romo is an illegal immigrant just from looking at him. It’s clearly something he feels strongly about, but do you think the victory parade is the right forum for it?

One one hand, you could argue that championship parades are supposed to be reserved for light-hearted antics like dropping f-bombs and getting hammered. On the flip side, Romo has earned the right to raise awareness about an issue he feels strongly about by winning a championship. It’s one of the many luxuries that accompany being the best.

Bruce Bochy Really Wanted Sergio Romo on the NL All-Star Team

Bruce Bochy used a blatant bias when he picked the NL All-Star team. It’s something managers do and we understood it. What wasn’t cool was giving all his starters the night off while burning everyone else’s pitchers, but that’s a separate point. What is of concern is the disgusting depths of his homerism.

While pitchers like Tommy Hanson, Jordan Zimmerman, Daniel Hudson, and John Axford were left off the team AND fan vote, Bochy was busy considering adding his reliever Sergio Romo to the squad. Check out his little crib sheet that shows the players he considered for the fan vote (as shown during Showtime’s premiere of The Franchise):

Bruce Bochy for you, ladies and gentlemen. Bochy made no secret that he was going to reward his players, but I had no idea he would take it that far. He had meetings with Romo and Javier Lopez to let them know he tried to get them on the team but couldn’t make it work. Now we really know that’s a fact.

When we did our list of NL All-Star team snubs, Romo was not mentioned. About 20 other pitchers were on the list, but not Romo. This is the NL All-Star team, Bochy, not the All MLB Facial Hair Team. Get real.

Sergio Romo Shaves Part of His Beard

Brian Wilson isn’t the only Giants reliever with a freaky beard. In fact, fellow reliever Sergio Romo actually had his beard growing since last year before Wilson’s took on a life of its own. What’s strange is that the same day Brian Wilson made his season debut, Romo’s full beard made its season disappearance.

I don’t know if they have a name for his new look, but I’ll call it the Chester A. Arthur. Here’s a video of Sergio Romo to get the full effect of the new look:
