FS1 announcer Joe Davis hit it out of the park on Tuesday with his call of Aaron Judge’s season-saving home run.
The Yankees appeared headed for elimination, down 6-3 in the fourth inning of their ALDS Game 3 against the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y. But Judge changed that with one swing up the bat.
The reigning AL MVP stepped up to the plate with two runners on and one out against Blue Jays reliever Louis Varland. Judge smashed Varland’s 0-2 fastball deep to left field for a three-run home run.
Just like Judge’s read on Varland’s two-strike pitch, Davis was sitting on brilliant call of the play as it developed.
“Hits a drive, down the line. If it’s fair, it’s his moment. It is! It’s tied! Judge has arrived!” said Davis while raising his voice to match the home crowd’s crescendoing applause.

Judge’s dinger was impressive for a myriad of reasons beyond the fact that it was a game-tying home run in an elimination game.
Ken Rosenthal shared during the broadcast that there have been 528 0-2 pitches this season that were thrown for at least 99 mph outside of the zone. Judge was the only one to hit such a pitch for a home run.
The near-100-mph pitch Judge clobbered was 1.2 feet inside. The Yankees star also became the first player in any MLB game to ever hit a pitch thrown that hard and that far inside for a home run.
Some Statcast on Aaron Judge's HR: It was off a 99.7 mph pitch that was 1.2 feet inside (vs. the center of the zone). It’s the first time in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008), regular season or postseason combined, that a hitter has homered off a 99-plus mph pitch that also was… pic.twitter.com/qZe45cEWAF

Like Davis said, it was Judge’s moment.
