Adam Wainwright had great trash talk for teammate Lars Nootbaar
Adam Wainwright had some great trash talk for his St. Louis Cardinals teammate, Lars Nootbaar.
Wainwright has joined Adam Amin and A.J. Pierzynski as part of an announcing trio calling the ALDS between the Minnesota Twins and Houston Astros for FOX. Toward the end of the 9-1 blowout win in Game 3 by Houston, the guys were talking about fantasy football.
Wainwright, who is retiring, said that one of the things he will miss most is running a fantasy football league among his Cardinals teammates.
“I love it. It’s one of my biggest outlets, and I love it,” Wainwright said of running the Cardinals’ fantasy football league. “That’s going to be the thing I miss the most about the clubhouse maybe. I have been the commissioner in that clubhouse since 2008.”
Wainwright was asked whether he was passing the commissioner role along to someone else. He said no and that he was just leaving it behind. Apparently some current Cardinals players heard Wainwright say that and volunteered to take the role.
“I see Lars Nootbaar just texted me. ‘I’ll be the commish.’ See, he doesn’t know. He’s that guy that’s terrible who we need in the league,” Wainwright humorously said.
Nootbaar just finished his third season with the Cardinals. The 26-year-old volunteered himself for a big role and then just got mocked on national TV. What a turn of events!
This is the third postseason series Wainwright has broadcast for FOX. He also called series in 2020 and 2021. The former Cardinals pitcher also has an agreement in place to call about 15 games for FOX next regular season.
