Still unsigned two weeks into the 2017 Major League Baseball season, outfielder Angel Pagan has decided to go ahead and take the year off.
Pagan, the longtime San Francisco Giant, told Yamaira Muniz Perez of El Vocero that he intends to sit out the 2017 season to devote himself to his family, via Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors.
Pagan stressed that he is not retiring and may choose to return in 2018, but for now, he is focused on his family.
Pagan hit .277 with a career-high 12 home runs last season for the Giants, where he was a part of two World Series titles. The 35-year-old did drum up some interest, but apparently nothing that really compelled him to sign. He could certainly still play, but for now, he’s content to stay home and relax.
