Astros wear ‘Yes Way, Jose’ shirts to boost Jose Altuve’s All-Star Game chances
The Royals are currently dominating the American League All-Star Game voting with seven players projected to start their respective positions at the most recent update. However, the Astros are doing their best to see to it one of their guys leap frogs one of the Royals for a starting spot.
While Omar Infante is currently holding the top spot for second base, it’s seen a travesty by many that he was ahead of Jose Altuve, who is clearly more deserving. On Saturday, Astros players and coaches wore the above pictured shirts which read “Yes Way, Jose” on the front during pregame activities. The words were accompanied by a photo of Altuve holding two thumbs up. The shirts were also given to the first 10,000 fans at Minute Maid Park for Houston’s game against the Yankees.
After the second voting update, released on June 1, Altuve was the leader for second base by 557,153 votes. Since then, Infante has surged ahead with Altuve now trailing by 435,540, according to the update released on June 22.
Even if he isn’t voted in as a starter, Jose Altuve will certainly be among those representing the American League at this year’s game in Cincinnati. With All-Star game voting set to end next Thursday, there’s still time for a last minute push so Altuve isn’t a reserve, as he was a year ago.
