The St. Louis Cardinals pulled a controversial move against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, and that led fans to say the same thing.
The Cubs beat the Cardinals 7-3 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Ill., thanks in large part to a huge game from Michael Busch. The Cubs first baseman went 4-for-4 with two home runs and a walk, giving him 34 dingers and 90 RBIs for the season.
Busch homered in the first, doubled in the third, homered in the fifth, and tripled in the seventh. All he needed was a single for the cycle. He came up with a runner on third base and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Cardinals decided to intentionally walk him. That move, of course, led to boos from Cubs fans for their rivals.
Michael Busch was a single away from the cycle in the 8th inning.

The intentional walk prevented Busch from trying to hit for the cycle. Cubs fans were not happy, and they all used the same play on words to criticize the Cardinals. They all called it a “Busch League” move.
So hard to explain to my kid why I was ranting about Michael Busch being amazing, and “Busch League” was occurring.

Busch league by the Cardinals. What a sh*tty thing to do.

Fire Marmol. He’s been the worst manager for a few years now and that was just Busch League.

Of course, something that is “bush league” is baseball slang for something unprofessional or poor quality. Cubs fans were criticizing the Cardinals for not challenging Busch and giving him a shot at the cycle. Instead, he had to settle for collecting 14 bases in five plate appearances. That’s not bad!
