Cardinals rookie shades MLB for timing of Gold Glove Awards
Major League Baseball announced its annual Gold Glove Award winners on Sunday night, but those who were watching one of the most highly-anticipated NFL games of the season may not have paid any attention. St. Louis Cardinals rookie Jack Flaherty sees that as a major issue.
Flaherty, who went 8-9 in his first full season as a starting pitcher with the Cards, took to Twitter to criticize MLB for choosing to unveil awards during a showdown between Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.
You know what’s great… is that they decided to do these awards during a Sunday night football game between Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady
I’m sure most of people are locked in to the awards…— Jack Flaherty (@Jack9Flaherty) November 5, 2018
Sunday night’s Packers-Patriots game was only the second time Brady and Rodgers have met in their remarkable careers, and they are widely considered to be two of the three best quarterbacks in the NFL. You can understand why people would rather watch that live and find out who won Gold Gloves later.
MLB officials have had access to the NFL schedule as long as the rest of us, so they could have planned around arguably the biggest “Sunday Night Football” game of the year. The league has faced a lot of criticism recently for the way it fails to market its star players, so you can bet Flaherty isn’t the only one who was disappointed with the timing of the Gold Glove unveiling.
