CC Sabathia threw three pitches on separated shoulder in ALCS Game 4
CC Sabathia’s MLB career may effectively be over, but nobody can ever question his heart.
Speaking with reporters on Friday, the New York Yankees lefty said that he subluxed his shoulder on a pitch to Aledmys Diaz in the eighth inning of the team’s 8-3 loss to the Houston Astros in ALCS Game 4 on Thursday. Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports pointed out that Sabathia remained in the game to face the next batter, George Springer, meaning that he threw three pitches with a partially separated shoulder.
The ex-Cy Young winner was unable to finish Springer’s at-bat, so Jonathan Loaisiga had to enter the game and wound up striking Springer out. But as for Sabathia’s three pitches on a ripped shoulder? 91, 80, and 88 miles per hour.
That may have been the last appearance of the six-time All-Star’s illustrious career, and if this indeed the end, Sabathia, 39, can truthfully say that he gave everything to the game that he possibly had to give.
