Report: Dodgers likely to pursue Francisco Lindor trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a frustrating NLDS exit in 2019, but they look likely to try to make some aggressive moves in the offseason to try to prevent that from happening again.

According to Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com, the Dodgers are likely to pursue a trade for Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor this offseason. If such a deal did happen, incumbent shortstop Corey Seager could become a trade candidate or shift to third base.

The Dodgers are said to be more open to major changes this offseason after making more minor changes in previous offseasons. The team’s playoff failure is likely a motivating factor behind that line of thinking.

Lindor hit .284 with 32 home runs last season and is a four-time All-Star. He’s also an immensely popular and charismatic player.

The shortstop, who turns 26 in November, would become a free agent after the 2021 season. The Indians have essentially confirmed that they are unlikely to be able to afford to keep him, meaning he could become a trade candidate. It remains to be seen whether they decide to try to hang onto him for one more season before dealing him before his contract year.
