Mariners star Eugenio Suarez at a press conference after Game 5 of the ALCS

Seattle Mariners fans were not the only ones crying tears of joy courtesy of postseason hero Eugenio Suarez.

The slugging third baseman hit two home runs on Friday in Game 5 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays. His second one was a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning that had Mariners fans going crazy inside T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Wash.

Suarez delivered an emotional postgame press conference after leading the Mariners to within one game of making the World Series. He did it with his two young daughters, Nicolle and Melanie, sitting right next to him.

“It’s a lot. Having days like this, for me, is very special. Emotion is always high; the crowd keeps us in the fight. They expect something good for us.”

“I’ve been waiting for games like this my whole career. Today, I had it. Today, I had it in front of our crowd, in front of my family, my two daughters, my wife. The moment is very special right now. My emotion right now is very high. I feel so grateful that God gave me the ability to do something good for this city. … Seattle really deserved this.”

OK, how sweet is this?

An emotional Eugenio Suarez’ introducing his gals. He has people crying in this Mariners postgame session. Says this, 2 HRs, GW grand slam, is the game he’s waited his whole life for. Calls it his most emotional single game.

Despite English not being Suarez’s native tongue, the reporters in the room could feel the emotion emanating from Suarez. Some attendees were even crying as Suarez spoke lovingly about what the moment meant for him and the city of Seattle.

Eugenio Suárez is giving one of the most authentic and thoughtful press conferences I’ve ever attended — joy, perspective, and gratitude.

When asked what he was thinking as he rounded the bases during his grand slam, Suarez said that he was praying while looking over at his wife, Genesis.

Suarez has hit over 300 home runs in his career. None came close to being as big as his bases-loaded blast to give the Mariners a 3-2 lead over the Blue Jays in the ALCS.
