Wednesday marked one of the few times that Jacob deGrom has been able to smile about his run support this season.
The New York Mets righty struck out ten over six shutout innings to lead the team to an 8-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. It was his first win since Jun. 18 and just his sixth in 23 starts this year.
Speaking with reporters after the game, deGrom was hilariously clowned by SNY’s Steve Gelbs, who asked him how he was able to maintain his focus with “only” eight runs of support. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com shared the video:

Run support has been a huge problem this season for deGrom, who holds an MLB-best 1.77 ERA but is only getting a pitiful 3.26 runs a game behind him.
One of deGrom’s teammates even apologized to him for the lack of support, so Wednesday was definitely a rare and welcome occurrence for the star pitcher.
