Joey Votto is still performing at an All-Star level in his 12th MLB season, but he’s already thinking about what he wants his next chapter to look like.
In an interview earlier this week on MLB Network with host Brian Kenny, the Cincinnati Reds slugger shared his odd ambitions for his post-playing career.

“After I’m done playing, I want to drive a bus,” he said. “I legitimately would like to drive a yellow bus when I’m older. I want to be either a crossing guard or drive a yellow bus, drive the kids to school or let ’em cross to school. That’s something I’m excited about. I’m serious about that. I think that will be great.
“I plan on retiring around 40, 41 years old,” continued Votto. “And then from 40 until however long I live, I’ll drive that bus.”
For Votto, who is currently 34 years old, another six or seven years in the league is certainly plausible — he’s currently leading the National League in on-base percentage at .419 and just made his sixth career All-Star team.
From there though, Votto would be free to pursue his school-related career aspirations to his heart’s content (which actually aren’t all that unprecedented thanks to the path blazed by this retired former professional player).
