John Farrell to return as Red Sox manager in 2017
The Boston Red Sox aren’t letting their knees jerk after suffering a disappointing early postseason exit.
Just one day the Red Sox were swept by the Cleveland Indians in the ALDS, team president Dave Dombrowski announced on Tuesday that John Farrell will return as Boston’s manager in 2017 and that his entire staff will be invited back as well, per Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald.
Dave Dombrowski: "John Farrell will be our manager for 2017. He is all set and his whole staff will be invited back."

The 54-year-old Farrell was hired as Red Sox manager in October 2012 and led the team to 97 wins and a World Series title in his first season at the helm in 2013. The Red Sox would post back-to-back last place finishes in the AL East in the two years following, however.
This season though, the no-nonsense Farrell helped swing the team’s fortunes as they won 93 games and took home the division title, leading many to consider them a World Series favorite. But Farrell’s deficiencies as an in-game strategist ultimately proved too great to overcome, and the Red Sox went out with a whimper at the hands of the Indians and their brooms.
Farrell will get another go at it in 2017, but Dombrowski declined to say if the Red Sox would pick up his team option for 2018, meaning that Farrell will be under enormous pressure to deliver next season after failing to find postseason success this year.
