The Pittsburgh Pirates have not had an easy time garnering big crowds this year, but that was not the case Saturday when they handed out Mac Miller bobbleheads.
The Pirates held the giveaway to honor Miller, the rapper and Pittsburgh native, seven years after his death. The turnout was immense, as security guards said people began lining up outside PNC Park as early as 8 a.m. to hand out the giveaway to the first 20,000 fans.

Part of the reason for the popularity is that Miller’s fandom goes beyond baseball. Unfortunately, that also meant that many were quickly putting their bobbleheads up for sale on eBay for absurdly high prices.

We have seen a similar frenzy on bobblehead nights for other players, but this goes a bit beyond even that. The Pirates will likely get one of their biggest crowds of the season because of this.
The flipside of this is that Pirates fans are notoriously critical of owner Bob Nutting. Ownership might hear some rather unsavory chants with a capacity crowd.
