Reporter says Alex Rodriguez to Marlins is ‘going to happen’
Alex Rodriguez has officially closed the book on his playing career with the New York Yankees, but he may want to hold off on retiring for at least another month or two.
With Giancarlo Stanton having been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a groin injury, Marlins president Michael Hill told reporters on Sunday that the team will consider signing Rodriguez. At least one reporter, ESPN’s Jim Bowden, believes the Marlins will do more than just consider it.

This would have made more sense in past seasons. Believe it or not, the Marlins are just a half-game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second NL Wild Card spot. They should be making smart roster moves rather than simply looking to create a buzz.
Without Stanton, Miami is going to have a tough time staying above .500 down the stretch. What the heck is A-Rod and his .200 batting average and .247 on-base percentage going to help? It’s not like he’s going to replace any of Stanton’s production.
Rodriguez’s time with the Yankees ended with some drama between the 41-year-old and his manager. Do the Marlins want to risk dealing with something similar for a player whose best days are way behind him? They are the Marlins, so anything is possible.
