Roberto Osuna had his assault charge withdrawn in court on Tuesday, and the Houston Astros reliever released a statement shortly thereafter.
As part of an agreement with prosecutors that includes a peace bond of one year and having no contact with the alleged victim during that time, Osuna will not be charged with domestic assault. Osuna said in a statement that he is “pleased and relieved” with the decision.
Roberto Osuna issues statement, and thanks #Astros:
“I am pleased and relieved by today’s court decision. Now I can begin to put these allegations behind me and focus on baseball. I want to thank my family, teammates and fans for believing in me. ‘’

The Astros have been heavily criticized for acquiring a player who was nearing the end of a 75-game domestic violence suspension. They released a statement last month that aimed to justify the move, but Osuna has still been met with boos when he takes the mound in opposing cities.
Osuna has a 2.50 ERA and has been serving as Houston’s closer over the past month. He has recorded 10 saves since joining the team and is expected to continue in that role during the playoffs.
