SF Giants hiring brother of current MLB executive as their new GM
The San Francisco Giants are hiring a GM with a fairly familiar last name.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported Thursday that the Giants are expected to announce the hire of Zack Minasian as their new general manager. Zack is the brother of Los Angeles Angels GM Perry Minasian, setting the stage for the first time in MLB history that two brothers will be GMs at the same time.
Perry has been Angels GM since 2020, becoming a somewhat well-known name among baseball fans. But Zack is a very qualified candidate in his own regard as well. Zack has been with the Giants organization since 2019 and had been serving as their vice president of pro scouting since 2022. Prior to that, he has a successful 14-year run with the Milwaukee Brewers, holding the titles of special advisor in baseball operations, director of pro scouting, and several other roles. Zack was credited with helping the Brewers end their two-and-a-half-decade playoff drought (with a postseason berth in 2008) and their nearly three-decade division title drought (with an NL Central crown in 2011).
As for the Giants, they went 80-82 this past season, missing the playoffs for a third consecutive year. They have since been reshuffling their front office, reassigning GM Pete Putila to a new role and firing president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi in order to hire a franchise legend. Now Zack Minasian will be tasked with helping run the new-look front office too.
