White Sox DFA’ing of Yonder Alonso had some awkward timing
Yonder Alonso got some disappointing news from the Chicago White Sox, and the timing of it made matters even more uncomfortable.
Alonso was designated for assignment by the team on Thursday. Mark Feisand of MLB.com noted that the move came just a couple hours after Chicago sent out a release promoting Alonso’s charity bowling event.
According to a source, the White Sox have designated 1B Yonder Alonso for assignment. This coming only two hours after the team sent out a release touting Alonso's charity bowling event benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago and the Chicago White Sox Charities.

The former All-Star first baseman was batting an ugly .178 on the season with a .576 OPS through 67 games, so the move isn’t entirely surprising.
Just six months ago, it was thought that the White Sox acquisition of Alonso would aid them in their pursuit of Manny Machado. Looking back on that is certainly awkward, but not as awkward as the team’s timing here.
