Last week, the Trail Blazers lost a valuable member of their team when Wes Matthews went down with what was later determined to be a torn left Achilles tendon. The injury will force Matthews to miss the remainder of this season and generally carries a recovery time of eight to nine months.
Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Rockets, Blazers players took the court for warmups wearing shirts in a show of support for Matthews. The front has the words “With Wes” while “RE2TURN” is featured on the back, with the 2 representing Matthews’ uniform number.

In addition to playing time lost, Matthews’ injury comes at a horrible time for his future earnings. The 28-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent this summer and was set to receive a lucrative long-term contract. With how he recovers in doubt, it’s highly possible he will be forced to take a shorter deal for less money. One thing we do know, there is no shortage of people hoping and pulling for Wes Matthews to come back better than ever.
