Sager had bouts with his leukemia being in remission and reappearing for years. He was told by doctors in March 2016 that he only had months to live with the disease, and he remained in the public eye throughout it all and showed up to work whenever he felt the strength. In July, Sager gave a phenomenal speech at the ESPYs about living with a terminal illness. You can watch the speech here.
Sager was truly one of those one-of-a-kind television personalities that come along once in a generation. Always known for his flamboyant outfits, he’s right up there with the most memorable sportscasters and sideline reporters in history. Sager will truly be missed.
