Joel Embiid has made a big change this offseason
Joel Embiid has made a big change this offseason.
Embiid showed up at the Philadelphia 76ers’ media day on Monday looking a little slimmer than usual. The Sixers big man told reporters that he has lost 25-30 pounds this offseason. Embiid even told the reporters in attendance that he plans to lose more weight in an effort to be healthy for the postseason.
“I still got a ways to go, still want to lose more, but it’s a process,” Embiid said. “We got to do whatever it takes to make sure that in the postseason I am healthy.”
Embiid is listed at 7-foot and 270 pounds, so this change would likely put him under 250 pounds.
Embiid added that he is not entering the season in pursuit of individual goals. Rather, his entire focus is on winning a championship.
“There’s no agenda, no All-Star, no All-NBA,” Embiid explained. “The focus is on whatever it takes to get to that stage.”
About the only thing that has slowed down Embiid during his NBA career has been injuries. He has battled eye, thumb and knee injuries during the postseason, as well as illnesses.
The 76ers have lost in the first round of the playoffs twice during Embiid’s career, including last season. They haven’t made it past the second round with Embiid. The 2022-2023 NBA MVP is hoping to change that in 2025.
