John Calipari gushes about Derrick Rose after ‘pain tolerance’ remarks
John Calipari made some comments about Derrick Rose earlier this week that were interpreted by many as being unflattering, and the Kentucky coach took to Twitter on Thursday to do a bit of damage control.
In an appearance on Colin Cowherd’s radio show, Calipari spoke about how Rose needs to be 100 percent healthy because he doesn’t have a high tolerance for pain. He probably didn’t mean it as an insult, but the backlash inspired these tweets:
I talked to @drose this morning for a while. What a great person. What a great basketball player. What a hard worker.

I can’t imagine Chicago has a player that works harder than @drose. He's grown so much since the first time I saw him play.

There is no doubt in my mind @drose is getting closer and closer to being 100 percent. That spells trouble for the rest of the league.

LOL, by the way, neither one of us like needles.

Rose’s performance this season has not been good, and we got into that in more detail here. As our Darryn Albert notes, Rose appeared in all 40 games — the longest an NCAA basketball season can be — during his one season at Memphis playing under Calipari.
