Josh Giddey has not appeared alongside his Chicago Bulls teammates as the Summer League rolls on in Las Vegas, and that’s unlikely to change unless he and the team can agree on a new contract.
Giddey is reportedly seeking a deal worth $30 million annually, while the Bulls are offering a much more modest $20 million per season.
The $10 million gap is a significant bridge to cross for the two sides, especially given that Giddey seems to be overvaluing himself. He has yet to reach his ceiling or display consistent high-upside play.
The 22-year-old averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists while shooting 46.5 percent in 70 games last season. All numbers were a tick above his career average, but not enough to warrant his current ask.
Chicago ultimately holds the leverage in these negotiations, and that could lead to a prolonged standoff.
