Things are not going so great right now in The Big Apple for Big Purr.
New York Knicks star big man Karl-Anthony Towns developed “hard feelings” towards the team over the summer after they included him in Giannis Antetokounmpo trade proposals to the Milwaukee Bucks, Sam Amick of The Athletic reported Thursday. Amick adds that those feelings of resentment from Towns “remain to this day.”
This report comes with the Bucks seemingly inching closer to trading Antetokounmpo, who informed the team earlier this week that he is ready to move on. The Knicks have long been rumored to be atop Antetokounmpo’s wishlist, and they were indeed heavily linked to the former NBA MVP this past summer.
As for Towns, the five-time All-Star, he has really struggled to fit into the Knicks’ offensive gameplan this season under their first-year head coach Mike Brown. Towns is averaging a pedestrian 20.2 points per game and is also posting a career-worst 46.2 field goal percentage (along with a three-point percentage of 36.1 that is the lowest since his rookie season).
We even heard earlier this month that Towns might be sent packing in a trade completely separate from the whole Antetokounmpo situation. The word was that the Knicks had supposedly discussed a Towns trade with three new NBA teams.
Currently in Year 2 of a four-year, $224 million contract, Towns makes the most sense as a trade chip for New York in any potential big-money deal. With the Knicks also recently being linked to another former NBA All-Star on the trade market, Towns very much seems like a candidate to be moved ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
