Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum seemed to take a needless shot at Caitlin Clark when discussing how the WNBA All-Stars organized themselves to send a message to the league on Saturday.
Plum spoke after the game about how players joined together to send a message to the league with their All-Star warmups. Plum, however, seemed fixated on making sure that Clark did not get the credit for the T-shirt idea.
“The T-shirt, just a united front, was determined this morning, that we had a meeting for,” Plum said. “Not to tattletale, but zero members of Team Clark were present for that.”
Even Sabrina Ionescu seemed confused by Plum bringing up Clark. Plum responded by saying she was “trying to make the situation lighter.”

Perhaps Plum was trying to make a joke, but it didn’t quite land. If anything, it seemed as if Plum was trying to ensure that Clark, who was widely photographed wearing the T-shirt, did not get credit for the idea.
Comments like Plum’s will only fuel the narrative that many of Clark’s peers are jealous or critical of the attention she receives. It would be one thing if Clark had come up as part of the discussion about the shirts, but Plum just brought her into it unprompted.
Plum is a four-time WNBA All-Star with two WNBA titles to her name. She really doesn’t need to be bringing Clark’s name up without any context in a moment like this, especially if the goal is simply to draw attention to the league’s pay structure.
