The Sacramento Kings have decided on their new permanent head coach.

The Kings intend to keep Doug Christie and will remove his interim tag, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. The Kings are in talks with Christie over a multi-year deal that would see him remain in the job permanently.

Christie always appeared to be the most likely choice of the Kings after taking over as interim head coach following the firing of Mike Brown last December. He had been an assistant with Sacramento since 2021, had developed a solid rapport with the players, and openly campaigned to be given the job on a permanent basis.

Christie also has strong links to the organization even beyond his coaching career. He played for Sacramento for five seasons from 2000-2005, and was selected to the All-Defensive Team four times during that span.

This will be Christie’s first head coaching job at any level. The Kings went 27-24 under his guidance last season, ultimately missing the playoffs after losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the play-in tournament.
