Report: NBA 25-ppg scorer is available for trade
One of the NBA’s most underrated bucket-getters may be up for the taking at the trade deadline.
Sam Amick of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas is considered to be available for trade ahead of the February deadline. Amick notes that Thomas failed to come to terms on an extension with the Nets over the offseason, setting him up for restricted free agency this coming summer.
The 23-year-old Thomas is having a career year for the Nets, averaging 24.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. His scoring average his him ranked 14th in the NBA this season (ahead of Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Brunson, Devin Booker, LeBron James, Steph Curry, and others).
Thomas is already highly regarded for his three-level scoring ability, which includes a knack for making difficult, off-balance shots. But Thomas also commands heavy usage and is still a bit limited as a playmaker.
At 5-9, the Nets are currently 11th in the East. Rather than hamstringing themselves by paying big money to retain Thomas this offseason, it looks like Brooklyn will consider trading him instead (along with at least three other notable players on their roster).
