Lamar Odom is cutting a deal.
The retired former NBA champion Odom has reached a deal with prosecutors to close out his DUI case, Edward Lewis of The California Post reported this week. Odom has pled no contest one misdemeanor count of DUI of alcohol and/or controlled or prohibited substance. As a result, officials are dismissing additional speeding and improper lane change charges that he had been facing.
As part of the plea deal, Odom must complete a series of conditions, including attending DUI school, completing a victim impact panel, paying a $1,000 fine, and performing community service. If Odom successfully meets these terms, his misdemeanor DUI charge will be amended to a reckless driving count.
However if Odom picks up a new DUI or is arrested for driving with a suspended/revoked license, he will be sentenced to 180 days in jail. You can read Lewis’ full report on the situation here.
Now 46 years old, Odom was arrested in Las Vegas, Nev. this past January on the DUI charge. He was reportedly travelling over 40 mph above the speed limit right before his arrest.
Odom played in the NBA from 1999-2013, winning two championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010 and also winning NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011. He unfortunately has a very long history of drug and alcohol problems though and even had a previous DUI arrest back in 2013.
