Quinn Cook changing jersey numbers in honor of Gianna and Kobe Bryant
Several NBA players have changed their jersey numbers this week in honor of Kobe Bryant, and Los Angeles Lakers point guard Quinn Cook has decided to make a switch as a tribute to both Kobe and his daughter Gianna.
Quinn told Shams Charania of The Athletic on Wednesday that he is changing from jersey No. 2 to No. 28. The new number combines the No. 8 Kobe wore during the first part of his career with the No. 2 Gianna wore for her youth basketball teams. Cook believes both numbers should be retired by the Lakers.

Other players who have changed their jersey numbers in honor of Kobe include Spencer Dinwiddie, Moe Harkless, Terrence Ross and Markieff Morris. Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid wore No. 24 on Tuesday night as a tribute to Kobe, and Embiid had to fulfill one condition in order to be given permission to do so.
At this rate, it seems like only a matter of time before the NBA retires Bryant’s No. 24 jersey and potentially No. 8 as well. One team that Kobe never played for has already retired No. 24, and the Lakers will obviously do something formal when they feel the time is right.
