Report: Rockets, Heat talking Dwight Howard-Hassan Whiteside trade
The Houston Rockets and Miami Heat are reportedly discussing a blockbuster trade that would involve Dwight Howard and Hassan Whiteside.
According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, there is a real chance Howard is moved before Thursday, and the Heat appear to be suitors.

Whiteside is a free agent this summer and the Heat don’t retain his full Bird rights, which means any team signing him would have to use cap space. Getting Howard off the books for what is essentially a talented player but an expiring contract could open up a move for a big free agent – Kevin Durant, perhaps? – though they’d still have to figure out how to address their frontcourt in that situation.
As for Miami, Pat Riley does love his stars, and pairing Howard with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade likely holds appeal for him, even if Bosh is already a capable center. There have been reports that the Heat intend to pursue Durant as well, though financial maneuvering would likely be required for that to be realistic. Perhaps this would be part of it, or perhaps they’re willing to give Howard the max contract that Houston won’t.
The Rockets have reportedly showed a willingness to part with Howard, and have supposedly engaged in talks with the Boston Celtics as well.
