Charles Barkley made a very unfortunate mistake about the Knicks
There is no Freudian slip quite like a Charles Barkley Freudian slip.
The retired Basketball Hall of Famer Barkley made an extremely unfortunate mistake during Saturday night’s edition of “Inside the NBA” on ESPN. Barkley was speaking about the New York Knicks, who won on Saturday against the Houston Rockets by a final score of 108-106 at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y.
During the discussion, Barkley accidentally called the team the “D–ks” instead of the “Knicks. Here is the video of the hilarious moment (which left co-hosts Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith in stitches).
Charles Barkley discussing the Knicks tonight:
— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) February 22, 2026
“The di*ks, to me, their offense got stagnant…”
(h/t @ohnohedidnt24)pic.twitter.com/HlmjYF8B4C
Barkley, 63, deserves some credit for just rolling with the punches there and continuing to make his point. However, O’Neal and Smith made absolutely sure that Barkley did not get away with that one unscathed.
The (ahem) Knicks improved to 36-21 with the victory. They now sit at third in the Eastern Conference and are just one game back of the No. 2-seeded Boston Celtics.
Part of Barkley’s appeal has always been how unpolished and candid he is on the air. However, Saturday’s mistake about the Knicks came just one day after Barkley also awkwardly hated on the Los Angeles Lakers while Austin Reaves was listening.
Daryl Morey receives a harsh chant during 76ers’ latest loss
Philadelphia 76ers fans have officially run out of patience with Daryl Morey.
The 76ers lost again on Saturday night, falling to the lowly New Orleans Pelicans by a final score of 126-111. It marked the fourth consecutive loss for Philadelphia, dropping them to sixth in the East at 30-26 (just one defeat away from the play-in tournament zone).
In the middle of the contest at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, La., a group of traveling 76ers fans who were in attendance began chanting a harsh message. “Fire Morey!” the fans yelled.
You can see the video at the link here.
The 76ers president of basketball operations Morey has been in charge since 2020. But he has had a number of high-profile misses in recent years, including destroying the franchise’s bridge with James Harden, signing Paul George to an ill-advised $212 million contract, and (most recently) trading away talented 22-year-old guard Jared McCain for pennies on the dollar.
Philadelphia also had no significant additions at the 2026 trade deadline, and Morey proceeded to get shady when he was confronted about it at a press conference. Now it appears that fans of the 76ers want someone else in charge other than the former NBA Executive of the Year Morey.
Jets’ free agency plan for Breece Hall has been revealed
Breece Hall wants a big payday this offseason, but the New York Jets may not be ready to accommodate that, at least not long-term.
The belief around the NFL is that the Jets will ultimately use the transition tag on Hall, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. That would allow the Jets to match any offer sheet, but would not give them draft compensation if they did not match it.
The transition tag may be a temporary move that could be withdrawn if and when Hall receives an offer sheet the Jets are not interested in matching. If he did remain on the transition tag, he would earn just shy of $12 million next season.
The Jets certainly sound hesitant to commit to Hall long-term, even though he is coming off a breakout season. He was by far the team’s most productive player on offense, tallying 1,415 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns. He was subject to trade rumors this season, though nothing ever came of them.
Hall is expecting to be paid like a top running back this offseason. The Jets appear content to essentially dare other teams to do just that.
Tyrese Haliburton sent home by Pacers due to unusual illness
The Indiana Pacers have not had Tyrese Haliburton all season. Now they will be without his presence for a few weeks for a very strange reason.
Haliburton will be away from the Pacers for two to three weeks after developing a case of shingles, according to coach Rick Carlisle. Haliburton is expected to make a full recovery.

He was diagnosed with shingles and will make a full recovery, per Rick Carlisle. pic.twitter.com/a9UEV7UloL
Shingles cause a painful skin rash, so beyond just prioritizing his recovery, Haliburton is better off resting at home. It is certainly an unusual health issue for any pro athlete, especially since Haliburton himself has not even been playing.
Haliburton has generally traveled with the Pacers all season as he works his way back from a torn Achilles. There have been a few understandable exceptions to that, however.
By all accounts, Haliburton’s rehab is going well, and he might even come back stronger than he was when he got hurt in the NBA Finals. This is a setback, albeit a minor one, in his recovery.
Giants turned the most bizarre triple play
The San Francisco Giants turned one of the most bizarre triple plays imaginable during their spring training game against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
The Cubs put two on with nobody out in the game at Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, Az. with outfielder Seiya Suzuki at the plate. Suzuki looped a single into right, but made a baserunning gaffe by attempting to take second, perhaps anticipating a throw to the plate. The throw was cut off and Suzuki was thrown out, while the other two runners held at second and third.
Alex Bregman saw Suzuki coming and tried to take third, but leadoff hitter Matt Shaw was already stationed there. That allowed the Giants to tag Bregman for the second out. Shaw, perhaps forgetting how many outs there were, then proceeded to walk off the base, and the Giants tagged him for the third out.
🚨 TRIPLE PLAY! TRIPLE PLAY! TRIPLE PLAY! 🚨 pic.twitter.com/8SjdbFxurs
— SFGiants (@SFGiants) February 22, 2026
Usually, triple plays require some sort of defensive gem, but the Giants basically had this one gifted to them by a series of awful decisions by Cubs players. Shaw’s was the most baffling, but nobody came away looking great on this.
This was only the second spring training game for the Giants and the third for the Cubs. Presumably, Chicago will be a bit sharper than this by Opening Day.
Kentucky coach Mark Pope caught on hot mic about being ‘cheated’ by refs
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope was caught on a hot mic complaining about officials following his team’s 75-74 loss to Auburn on Saturday.
Pope was livid about an offensive foul call that went against the Wildcats’ Collin Chandler with 14 seconds left and Kentucky up by one. The call gave Auburn the ball back and allowed them to take the lead with 1.1 seconds remaining.
During his postgame press conference, Pope refused to comment on the officials, but he was happy to do so once he thought he was out of earshot.
“Mitch, if those MFers try to fine me, screw ’em. I did not say a word about how they cheated us,” Pope could be heard saying to athletic director Mitch Barnhart.
Mark Pope as he left the postgame podium:

It is not entirely clear if the SEC can even take action here considering Pope had left the media room and was not making an official comment. Needless to say, that kind of talk would certainly draw a fine if it did happen in a more formal environment.
Saturday’s loss dropped Kentucky to 17-10 on the season, well below the standard Big Blue Nation expects. Some fans have even been turning against Pope for months now.
Canada star thinks they were ‘better team’ despite loss
Team Canada star Nathan MacKinnon had a tough time accepting his team’s loss to Team USA in Sunday’s gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The United States overcame Canada 2-1 in overtime Sunday at Santaguilia Arena in Milan, even though they were on the defensive for a large part of the game. MacKinnon clearly felt that the final score was not a fair reflection of the result based on a comment he made after the game.
“You be the judge of who was the better team today,” MacKinnon said, via Joshua Clipperton of the Canadian Press.
MacKinnon’s point is likely that the Canadians outshot the Americans 42-28 and were on the attack for large parts of the second and third periods. No doubt, Canada had chances to win the game. Those chances were spurned, however, including by MacKinnon himself, who had the biggest miss of the game.
Despite the pressure they put on the Americans, Canada only beat Connor Hellebuyck once, with the American goalie turning in an all-time great performance. One can certainly argue that Canada had the better chances, but Hellebuyck’s outstanding performance counts just as much from the American perspective.
Rhys Hoskins has signed with a new team
Rhys Hoskins will try to reignite his MLB career with a new team.
Hoskins is signing a minor league contract with the Cleveland Guardians. He was in camp with the team Sunday morning, and he could make as much as $1.5 million if he makes the team.
Source: Once finalized, the Guardians’ deal with Hoskins would be a minor-league contract that pays him a base salary of $1.5M should he make the major-league roster. https://t.co/fhmqq9NZ6Q
— Zack Meisel (@ZackMeisel) February 22, 2026
Hoskins was a feared slugger with the Philadelphia Phillies, and he crossed the 30 home run plateau twice. He suffered a torn ACL in the spring of 2023 and has not been the same player since. While he hit 26 home runs for Milwaukee in 2024, that number fell to 12 in 90 games last season.
The Guardians have been notoriously successful with under-the-radar additions, and they have an opening at first base after Carlos Santana’s departure. Hoskins has a real opportunity to win that job, at least on a platoon basis.
There is a chance Hoskins might benefit from leaving the National League, too. He had really built up some enemies there.
Team Canada missed 2 open goals in their loss to Team USA
Team Canada will be left bemoaning two amazing chances that they did not take in their Olympic loss to Team USA on Sunday.
Canada lost in overtime 2-1 at Santaguilia Arena in Milan on Sunday despite generally outplaying the Americans during regulation. The Canadians outshot the Americans 42-28, but were denied by the play of American goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and some unbelievable misses.
Early in the third period, Hellebuyck made a sensational save on Canadian defenseman Devon Toews when it appeared Toews had an open net to shoot at. Hellebuyck was somehow able to get the paddle of his stick in front of the puck just as Toews was about to bury it.
THAT WAS ONE HELLE-BUYCK OF A STOP. 😳 pic.twitter.com/N3wCimdBGw
— NBC Olympics & Paralympics (@NBCOlympics) February 22, 2026
Later in the third, Canada’s Nathan MacKinnon inexplicably missed an open goal, shooting wide with the net at his mercy.

— Pardon My Take (@PardonMyTake) February 22, 2026
Hellebuyck also stopped both Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini on breakaways, but these two moments arguably turned the game. If Canada scores on either opportunity, they would have taken a 2-1 lead and left the United States scrambling for a game-tying goal late in the third period.
As for Toews and particularly MacKinnon, those misses will haunt them for a long time. The miss is even more painful for MacKinnon, as he scored from nearly the same position to win the semi-final against Finland in overtime.
Canada has not won the gold medal in men’s hockey since 2014. That will not sit well with them, but losing it to the Americans will add an extra layer of hurt.
Team USA paid incredible tribute to Johnny Gaudreau after winning Olympic gold
Team USA paid an emotional tribute to Johnny Gaudreau after winning their first Olympic gold medal in men’s ice hockey in 46 years.
Gaudreau was killed by a drunk driver in 2024 while playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and had a very good chance of being part of the Olympic team had he lived. Gaudreau’s family was in attendance for Sunday’s final in Milan, and after their 2-1 overtime win over Canada, Team USA players paraded his jersey around the ice.

The American players also brought Gaudreau’s two oldest children on the ice with them to take part in the celebratory team photo.

USA players had kept Gaudreau’s jersey hanging in their locker room throughout their Olympic run and spoke openly about wanting to keep him in mind as they tried to win gold. His death was a shock to the NHL community, and various players sought to pay tribute to him in the immediate aftermath. That sentiment has not faded after a year and a half.
The American gold medal on Sunday was the first in men’s ice hockey for the nation since 1980, and it came in particularly dramatic fashion early in overtime.
Jack Hughes scored the Olympic-winning goal after losing 2 teeth
Jack Hughes scored the Olympic-winning goal for Team USA on Sunday in perfect hockey player fashion.
Hughes had two of his teeth cracked in the third period of Sunday’s gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. The New Jersey Devils star took a high stick to the face from Canada’s Sam Bennett late in the third period that drew blood and knocked out at least a couple of teeth.

Hughes was visibly bleeding, which led to Bennett getting a four-minute double-minor. The Americans failed to take advantage, however, and the game went to overtime.
Hughes did not let his missing teeth and bloody lip bother him. He scored the game-winning goal less than two minutes into overtime, handing the Americans their first gold in men’s ice hockey since 1980.

Hockey players are famed for their toughness, and this is why. Hughes never even went to the locker room after taking the stick to the face. He was on the ice again within minutes, even though he was still bleeding and not all of his teeth were intact.
Thanks in part to Hughes’ heroics, the Americans won their first gold in 46 years. To do it against rival Canada makes it even more meaningful. He was never going to let a few lost teeth get in the way of that goal.
ESPN got ripped for screwing up their Rondale Moore tribute
ESPN was among a number of media outlets that received sharp criticism for a major error in covering the death of Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore.
The network paid tribute to Moore on “SportsCenter” with Scott Van Pelt on Saturday night, but their graphic included a notable mistake. They showed a photo of Vikings wide receiver Myles Price, not of Moore.
A CNN news article even made the same mistake, drawing further criticism.
It's crazy seeing how many outlets accidentally used a picture of Myles Price instead of Rondale Moore last night. 🧐
— College Sports Only (@CSOonX) February 22, 2026
Yes, they both wore #4 for the Vikings but come on… pic.twitter.com/6cnIiKaXBB
The problem is that both Moore and Price wore No. 4 for Minnesota. Moore never played in a regular season game for the Vikings due to a serious knee injury, but that is hardly an excuse for such a glaring mistake.
Moore died Saturday at the age of 25 of what is believed to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He spent three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals prior to his time with Minnesota, and was also remembered for his standout college career at Purdue.
UCLA beats Illinois on Tyus Edney-like play at buzzer
UCLA upset Illinois at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif., on Saturday night, and they did so on a final play that looks very familiar to Bruins fans.
Donovan Dent went the length of the court and finished a layup to give UCLA a 95-94 win over Illinois in overtime. The Bruins had the ball under their basket with 4.9 seconds left and inbounded to Dent, who dribbled through the entire Illini team and made a great layup in traffic.

Credit Tim Brando with the great announcing call on the play, and for knowing his history well enough to cite Edney’s name off the top of his head. Dent had 14 points and 15 assists in the game.
The only thing missing from Dent’s dribble through traffic was a behind-the-back move like Edney did in the NCAA Tournament to beat Missouri:

Edney’s great play occurred in the second round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament, which UCLA eventually won. Bruins fans are hoping this year will be a repeat of that successful season.
Vikings WR Rondale Moore dies at 25
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore has died at the age of 25.

A former Purdue Boilermakers star wide receiver, Moore started his journey in the pros with the Arizona Cardinals, who took him in the second round (49th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the Cardinals, during which he accumulated 1,201 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 135 receptions and 182 targets through 39 games (23 starts).
The Cardinals traded Moore to the Atlanta Falcons in March 2024 in exchange for quarterback Desmond Ridder, but he never played for the Falcons due to a season-ending knee injury suffered in training camp.
In March 2025, Moore inked a one-year, $2 million contract with the Vikings, but he injured his knee again during a preseason game against the Houston Texans, ending his 2025 campaign.
Moore’s former coach at Purdue and current Louisville Cardinals head coach, Jeff Brohm, released a statement following the saddening news. Brohm said Moore “was a complete joy to watch” and described him as “the ultimate competitor that wouldn’t back down from any challenge.” (Read Brohm’s full statement here.)
Connor McDavid shares his honest assessment of Team USA
Connor McDavid knows it is not going to be a walk in the park for Canada in the gold-medal match against Team USA.
Canada and the United States are the last two teams standing in the men’s hockey tournament at the 2026 Winter Olympics, and they are on a collision course in a massive showdown for the gold on Sunday at the Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena in Milan.
McDavid praised Team USA’s talent ahead of the big game but remained confident in Canada, which is also loaded with elite players from top to bottom.
“They look very strong,” the three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner said, via Michael Traikos of The Hockey News.
“They have a very good back end, they’ve got a great goaltender, they’re strong up front. It’s Team USA. They’ve got great players everywhere, and so do we. It’s going to be a great game.”
Both Canada and the United States parade many of the best players in the NHL today, including none other than McDavid, who is widely regarded as the top hockey talent in the world.
Alongside the Edmonton Oilers star are the likes of Macklin Celebrini, Nathan MacKinnon, Mitch Marner and Mark Stone.
Team USA, on the other hand, features a lineup including Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel and brothers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, but their defense could be the key to topping the Canadians.
Connor Hellebuyck leads all goalies in the 2026 Olympics with a 1.23 goals-against average, while the Americans’ blue line has Quinn Hughes, Charlie McAvoy, Jaccob Slavin and Zach Werenski, among others.
Video: Jalen Green hits buzzer-beater in second overtime to beat the Magic
The Phoenix Suns got the job done on Sunday against the Orlando Magic, thanks to the clutch heroics of Jalen Green.
With 1.1 seconds left in the second overtime, Suns forward Royce O’Neale inbounded the ball to Green, who had been shooting bricks all game long.
With seemingly all the confidence in the world despite an ugly shooting night, Green shot the ball from deep right corner as Orlando’s Anthony Black tried to go for a block. It was too late for Black, though, as Green swished in the game-winning jumper at the buzzer, giving Phoenix a 113-100 win at the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Ariz.
Here’s a video of that entire sequence.
JALEN GREEN ICE IN HIS VEINS FOR THE WIN 🥶 pic.twitter.com/B8fXouaEU2
— PHNX Suns (@PHNX_Suns) February 22, 2026
Before that shot, Green was just a 5-for-25 from the floor, as he saw more touches due to the absence of Devin Booker and the early exit from the contest by Dillon Brooks.
But that horrid shooting performance did not matter when it was all said and done, as Green delivered for Phoenix in the most important time of the game. He finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in 37 minutes of action. Grayson Allen led the Suns in scoring with 27 points on 8-for-22 shooting.
The 24-year-old Green also became just the first player since former Dallas Mavericks guard Deron Williams in 2016 to win a game in double-overtime on a 3-point shot at the buzzer, according to ESPN Insights.
Dodgers claim a 57-home run outfielder off waivers
The Los Angeles Dodgers are taking a chance on a former Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder.
MLB insider Robert Murray reported on Saturday that the reigning World Series champions have claimed outfielder Jack Suwinski off waivers from the Pirates.
This opens a new chapter for Suwinski’s career in the big leagues after he was designated for assignment by the Pirates in order to create a space on their 40-man roster for three-time All-Star Marcell Ozuna.
The 27-year-old Suwinski now hopes to resurrect a career that’s struggled over the past two years.
After posting a 3.4 bWAR and hitting 45 home runs in his first two seasons in MLB with Pittsburgh, Suwinski has recorded a -2.1 bWAR with only 12 home runs in 2024 and 2025.
Through four seasons in the big leagues, he has batted .199/.305/.389 and hit 57 home runs with 148 RBIs across 397 games and 1,361 plate appearances.
Suwinski will have a tough time finding a regular spot on the Dodgers’ outfield even if he makes the Opening Day roster, with Teoscar Hernandez, Andy Pages, and Kyle Tucker firmly established ahead of him on the depth chart. But there could be a chance for him to earn a platoon role as a left-handed batter.
Ty Lue fires back at Kawhi Leonard’s negative Clippers take
Los Angeles Clippers coach Tyronn Lue is trying to ensure that his players remain focused and motivated despite their trade deadline sell-off.
Lue responded to comments from Kawhi Leonard, who characterized the Clippers’ season as “over” on Thursday after the team shipped the likes of James Harden and Ivica Zubac elsewhere at the deadline. The coach tried to make clear that the team is still trying to make the playoffs this season.
“Man, we’re playing to win,” Lue said Friday, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “I don’t care if it’s young, old, toddlers … whoever’s on the floor, we’re trying to win. I mean, we’re trying to win. There’s no other reason to play.”
That is not necessarily the sort of thing one would want a coach to have to clarify at this stage of the season, but it is where the Clippers are at. The team fell to 27-29 with their loss to the Lakers on Friday, which is still good enough for ninth in the Western Conference. That would leave them as a play-in team as things stand, though obviously they would have to maintain a roughly .500 pace over their final 26 games.
One can certainly understand Leonard’s perspective given what the Clippers did at the deadline. It would also be understandable if he is frustrated, as he is averaging 27.8 points per game in one of his best seasons in years.
Myles Garrett sets a bold five-year goal after breaking sack record
After smashing the NFL’s single-season record for sacks, Cleveland Browns superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett wants to break another.
The top pick in the 2017 NFL Draft is aiming to set a new all-time NFL record for career sacks, and he even put a timeline on it.
“I’m going to take that down, and prefer that I take it down here in the next five years,” the 30-year-old Garrett told DJ Siddiqi in an exclusive interview with Casino Guru News. “That is definitely on my mind to go out there and get. That’s a goal I’ve had for years now since college.”
Although the Browns had another letdown season, winning just five games and missing the NFL playoffs again in the 2025 campaign, Garrett’s pursuit of the single-season sack record provided a thrill for the team’s fans.
The former Texas A&M Aggies star finally got it during a 20-18 win in Week 18 against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Overall, he had 23.0 sacks in 2025, surpassing the previous record shared by Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt and Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan.
So far in his pro career, Garrett has 125.5 sacks in the NFL, while the all-time record is 200.0 by Hall of Famer Bruce Smith.
Browns LB unlikely to play again due to serious injury
A player once viewed as an integral part of the Cleveland Browns’ future is said to be unlikely to ever play again.
Linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is “doubtful at best” to play again due to a serious neck injury he suffered in 2024, according to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. Owusu-Koramoah missed all of 2025 due to the injury, and does not appear likely to return.
Owusu-Koramoah, 26, quickly established himself as a starter after the Browns selected him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He emerged as a Pro Bowl selection in 2023, a season that saw him rack up 101 total tackles in 16 games. He had been rewarded with a three-year contract extension prior to the 2024 season as well.
The former Notre Dame linebacker suffered his likely career-ending injury on Oct. 27, 2024, in a violent collision with Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry. He had to be immobilized and placed on a back board as he was removed from the field.
The Browns may have feared things trending this way for a while, having invested a 2025 second-round pick in linebacker Carson Schwesinger. He appears to be the player the team will be building around for the foreseeable future.
