Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao pay-per-view could surpass four million buys

Floyd Mayweather Manny Pacquiao

Being billed as the Super Bowl of boxing, the illustrious Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight is a guarantee to set the record for most pay-per-view buys in history and should surpass the previous high by a wide margin.

Yahoo!’s Kevin Iole says the fight is “tracking for an enormous number” on pay-per-view. He believes it could surpass four million buys if the trends continue.

The previous high for pay-per-view buys came in 2007 when there were around 2.4 million buys for the Mayweather-Oscar De La Hoya fight. Mayweather trails De La Hoya for the most buys generated in a career, but after Saturday, he likely will surpass the Golden Boy. De La Hoya sold 12.8 million units in his career, while Mayweather has sold over nine million.
