Gennady Golovkin pressuring Canelo Alvarez to fight

Gennady Golovkin

Gennady Golovkin is doing all he can to pressure Canelo Alvarez into fighting him in what would be the most anticipated boxing match of the year.

Golovkin, aka “GGG,” and Canelo are two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, and there has been chatter about them meeting for the past year or so. The big stumbling block so far has been weight; Alvarez fights in the middleweight class, but at a catch weight limit of 155 pounds. Golovkin has been a true middleweight fighting at the 160-pound limit since he began his professional career in 2006. Alvarez has been trying to get GGG to come down to his 155-pound catchweight, but GGG for obvious reasons does not want to do that.

Now Golovkin is using social media to try pressuring Alvarez into fighting him. Ever since Canelo beat Amir Khan over the weekend — a fight GGG attended — he has been on social media pushing for the fight. Take a look:

Canelo sounds like he would be down for the fight, too. After beating Khan, he said in his interview that he wanted Golovkin and that there would be no more messing around. Let’s hope the two sides make it happen. A September fight between them seems like a real possibility, and it would be awesome.
