Kyle Larson has apologized for using a racial slur during Sunday night’s virtual NASCAR race, but that was not enough to save his job with his racing team.

On Tuesday, Chip Ginassi Racing announced that it has decided to part ways with Larson.

Larson was suspended indefinitely on Monday by both NASCAR and Chip Ginassi Racing, but the team felt that wasn’t enough after taking a day to gauge reaction.

Larson appeared to lose communication with his spotter during the iRacing Pro Series event just before he dropped the N-word. He was heard on the livestream saying, ‘You can’t hear me? Hey, n—-r.” Other drivers uncomfortably informed Larson that what he had said was heard by all.

Larson, who is half Japanese and a graduate of NASCAR’s “Drive for Diversity” program, took to Twitter on Monday to issue an apology video.
