Max Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on Sunday for his first victory since Imola in May. Despite losing his lead to Lando Norris on the opening lap, Verstappen stormed back a few back laps later to regain his lead, and he never looked back.
In addition to his victory, Verstappen also set the fastest lap in F1 history during qualifying with a time of 1:18.792. Rounding out the podium were Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who finished second and third, respectively.
Following the results of the race, Piastri holds a sizeable 31-point lead over teammate Norris in the drivers’ championship.
In what may be considered somewhat of a disappointment for Ferrari, who was racing on their home race at Monza, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and sixth, respectively.
While Ferrari still stands comfortably in 2nd place in the constructors’ standings, Red Bull Racing seems to be closing the gap rapidly with only eight races remaining.
