Martin Truex Jr. is expected to announce Friday that he will be retiring after the 2024 Cup Series season. His impending retirement will create a vacancy with the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, and there are questions about whom the replacement driver will be.

Briscoe has driven the No. 14 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Stewart–Haas Racing since 2021. He has won one race and finished in the top 10 26 times in the Cup Series. Stewart-Haas Racing is undergoing some major changes, which could make it an easy time for Briscoe to make a switch.
The No. 19 Toyota was the fourth full-time car entered by JGR to compete in the Cup Series full time. Carl Edwards drove the car for its first full-time season in 2015. Daniel Suarez also drove the No. 19 Toyota after Edwards and prior to Truex, who took it over in 2019.
