Arizona police officer being investigated for leveling unsuspecting woman (Video)
Arizona students did not exactly handle their Elite 8 loss to Wisconsin with class. Thousands of students took the streets after the heartbreaking 64-63 defeat to express their anger, and the result was a bunch of tear gas and rubber bullets. Police were understandably on edge during the riots, but that doesn’t excuse what one officer did to an unsuspecting woman.
An Arizona student who went to University Boulevard on Saturday night to check out all the action was strolling along when a police officer absolutely leveled her out of nowhere. He was caught on camera knocking the young woman over a bike rack.
‘These girls had been trying to get to their car. The girl is on her phone not paying attention and this cop came out of nowhere and just leveled her,” Phoebe Landolt, who shot the video, told the Arizona Daily Star. “After that everyone just started yelling and she started crying.”
A police spokesman said the Tucson Police Department is aware of the video and is conducting an internal investigation. While we know officers and riot police have a difficult job to do in situations like these, that seemed completely uncalled for. The video clearly shows that the student was simply walking along and didn’t appear to be posing any type of threat. There should be consequences.
