Banner calling for Clay Helton’s firing flies over USC
The USC Trojans need an unlikely win over Notre Dame on Saturday night just to become bowl eligible, but fans have already decided what they want to happen to coach Clay Helton no matter what.
About four hours ahead of Saturday night’s game, a plane was spotted flying a message over the USC campus and Coliseum calling for athletic director Lynn Swann to oust Helton.

The plane was likely paid for by a group of fans on a message board who raised money during the week. Their message is clear: they want a new head coach.
A loss to Notre Dame, as expected, would leave them at 5-7, which would be their worst record since Paul Hackett’s final season at the helm in 2000. It’s hard to see how Helton survives that.
