Bill Belichick’s first season as a college coach will not be documented by HBO, but it appears fans are still going to get a behind-the-scenes look at the current state of the North Carolina football program.
Belichick and North Carolina have agreed to a deal for a docuseries that will be featured on Disney-owned streaming service Hulu, Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports reported on Friday. The series will be produced by EverWonder Studio.
A title for the series has not yet been revealed.
UNC was in talks earlier this year to become the first ever college program featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” but the deal fell apart. There have been reports that HBO was getting set to announce the new series featuring the Tar Heels when Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, torpedoed the deal with specific demands.
A separate report claimed that Hudson, who represented herself as the Chief Operating Officer of “Belichick Productions,” wanted to be heavily involved in the production of “Hard Knocks.” One of the producers said at the time that conversations about the show “took a turn we were not comfortable with.”
Belichick, who is 73, has faced scrutiny over the level of influence that he has allowed the 24-year-old Hudson to have over his professional and personal life. Belichick responded to some of that criticism by claiming Hudson handles some of the business aspects of his life that do not pertain to North Carolina football.
Hudson has been a huge presence in Belichick’s life since the coach was hired by UNC. The six-time Super Bowl champion has tried to separate his personal life from his professional life since a video went viral of Hudson awkwardly interrupting one of his interviews.
Belichick will likely make sure that the reported Hulu series does not include anymore glimpses into his personal life.
