The Boston College Eagles have reportedly parted ways with head coach Steve Addazio.
According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, the Eagles have parted ways with Addazio after seven seasons. Boston College is 6-6 and bowl eligible, so wide receivers coach Rich Gunnell will coach the team in their bowl game.
Boston College believes a new coach can make them more competitive in ACC play. Addazio simply wasn’t able to do it. He finished with seven wins in five of his seven seasons as head coach and could have repeated that number with a bowl win this year, but he’d won just one bowl game and never had much success against ranked opponents, winning only once.
Perhaps fittingly, he went exactly .500 at 44-44 in his tenure with the Eagles.
It’s not clear what direction Boston College will go with their search. BC is not regarded as a great job and is unlikely to attract top talent, especially given the limitations of the school.
