Former Colorado quarterback and current FOX college football analyst Joel Klatt made an interesting claim about Deion Sanders’ future as Colorado coach.

In an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” Thursday, Klatt was asked about Sanders’ potential NFL coaching ambitions. Klatt admitted he could not be sure what Sanders would do in the future, but that Sanders has “never lied to me,” and told Klatt in a recent meeting that he has no intention of going to the NFL.

“I asked him last Friday, ‘Do you want to go to the NFL?’ And he looked at me and said ‘no,'” Klatt said. “I said, ‘Why?’ And he said, ‘I don’t feel like I would be fulfilling my calling and my purpose if I was there. … My calling is to impact young men and be a mentor to young men. I happen to do that through coaching, and I feel like I can do that better at the college level than I could with a bunch of professionals that might listen to me and might not listen to me because of the amount of money that they’re actually being paid.'”

Klatt added that Sanders is a more powerful figure at Colorado simply because the college game allows for that more than the NFL does. He also pointed out that Colorado essentially gave Sanders full control of the program that he would not get elsewhere.

If an NFL team wants to make a run at Sanders, they could offer him a lot of money to try to tempt him. If Sanders is telling the truth, however, he sounds like he would be tough to tempt. While much has been made of Sanders potentially getting one NFL job in particular, some news emerged Thursday that strongly suggests that Sanders plans to be back with the Buffs in 2025.
