Denard Robinson means business: He’s cutting out the Little Debbie snacks

Denard Robinson is entering his senior season at Michigan and doing everything possible to ensure he has a successful year. The Wolverines quarterback believes he’s in the best shape of his life now that he’s watching his diet.

“I never (used) to pay attention to what I ate,” Robinson said, according to AnnArbor.com. “I’m probably the biggest junk food eater ever. I’m like Lamar Odom when it comes to stuff like that.

“It’d be all candy, all Little Debbie snacks. All the bad stuff.”

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a second … he cut out the Little Debbie snacks? That is some serious commitment right there. I’m more of a Hostess guy than a Little Debbie fan, and I probably wouldn’t be able to function without a cinnamon streusel cake each day, so I feel his pain and recognize his dedication.

Robinson says the improved diet is part of an effort to get in peak physical condition so he can withstand the hits that come with being a running quarterback. The senior quarterback estimates that he’s added five pounds of muscle and that he’ll be playing at 200 pounds when the season begins.

I can only imagine what the new physique will do for Robinson’s game with the ladies, not to mention his play on the field. But let’s be real: football is a physical sport, and there isn’t much he can do to protect himself from leg and knee injuries. Let’s hope he’s able to avoid those.
