Desean Holmes, San Diego State recruit, has gone MIA
The San Diego State football team is preparing for its upcoming season, but they are currently missing an important piece of the puzzle.
And no one has any idea where that piece is.
Desean Holmes, one of the top recruits in San Diego State’s 2015 class, has not reported to training camp. Aztecs head coach Rocky Long told reporters that the four-star wide receiver is “MIA.”
“We cannot find him,” Long said Tuesday, via Ted Leonard of The San Diego Union-Tribune. “The kid won’t answer his phone, won’t call us back. We don’t know where he is.”
Long spoke to Holmes earlier this month about taking a summer school class that would make him academically eligible to play football when the season begins in September. Since then, several calls to Holmes and his family have not been returned. Long said he has no reason to be concerned about Holmes’ physical safety.
“It could all change overnight,” he said.
For now, Holmes’ whereabouts and state of mind remain a mystery. The Aztecs are looking for a playmaker at the wide receiver position, which is one of the reasons they were excited about the incoming freshman. The team is required to report to coaches on Aug. 5 and begin mandatory workouts the next day.
