A politician in Ohio has proposed some legislation that would apply to the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, and it left fans with some interesting reactions.
Tex Fischer serves in the Ohio House of Representatives as a representative of the 58th district in the state (Boardman). Fischer proposed legislation that would prevent a state university from Ohio from competing in a game before 3:30pm ET if both teams are ranked in the top 10 of the AP Poll. An exception to this rule would be applied for games between Ohio State and Michigan. There would also be a $10 million fine to either the conference or TV network that schedules a game involving an Ohio state university playing in a pre-3:30 pm ET kickoff.

The bill includes an exception that allows the Michigan game to kick off in its traditional noon slot.

The Buckeyes have become a popular selection for FOX to play in their first day of the game, which kicks off at noon ET. Since 2019 when FOX began its “Big Noon Kickoff” games, Ohio State has played in a noon ET game at least three times per season. They had six FOX noon ET kickoff games during their championship 2024 season.

Fans are surprised that a politician has involved himself in Ohio State’s football schedule.
This is beyond dumb.

I would think folks in the Ohio House have bigger things to worry about.
I'll take "Stupid Things Legislators Waste Time And Money on" for $100, Alex.

There are more important things for our reps to be doing.

The proposal is fairly radical. It will be interesting to see whether it gains any traction in the state legislature, but it’s clear that at least some people are trying to send a message to FOX TV about its scheduling.
