Gus Malzahn: Auburn’s offense in bowl blowout was ‘very satisfying’

Gus Malzahn

It may have taken four months, but Auburn finally put together its best game of the season.

Auburn blew out Purdue 63-14 in the Music City Bowl on Friday. Jarrett Stidham threw for 373 yards and 5 touchdowns, while the Tigers rushed for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns. Seeing the offense play that well was “very satisfying” for head coach Gus Malzahn.

“It was very satisfying. It was a thing of beauty to watch from the sideline, the guys make plays. When we make explosive plays, we play fast, we’re a pretty good offense. Today it all came together. I really believe that will carry over to next season,” Malzahn said after the game, via Auburn Undercover.

Auburn had good reason to be highly motivated in the game. They got throttled by rival Alabama 52-21 to drop to 7-5 in their regular season finale. There was talk that Malzahn accepted a reduced buyout to keep his job. To end the season by putting up 63 points on a quality opponent and winning by 49 reminds fans and administrators just what they’re capable of.
